AWS Data Migration and the Benefits

 

AWS (Amazon Web Services) is one of the biggest cloud platforms in the world.  Customers range from large corporations to small businesses and startups, all aiming to become more efficient, innovative, and agile at low costs.



Because of the new technology and speed that AWS brings to the table, there is a growing trend to migrate on-premises databases and systems to the AWS platform using the best AWS data migration tool. There are several types of cloud migration. One is to move data and applications from a local on-premises database to a cloud platform and another is to migrate the same from one cloud platform to another, better known as cloud to cloud migration. 

There are several benefits of migrating to AWS. It provides separate computing and storage facilities with flexibility in usage. Users can scale up or down in either of them by paying only for the quantum of resources used. This pay model is one of the unique features of AWS. Further, even when multiple users work simultaneously on multiple workloads there is no drop in performance. 

The most used AWS data migration tool is the Schema Conversion Tool (SCT). Migration with this tool is seamless as the source database schema is automatically converted along with many other database code objects. These include functions, stored procedures, and views that are all required in the target database. Any objects that are left out in the automatic process can be migrated manually.

The AWS data migration tool SCT scans application source code for embedded SQL statements. During this process, it goes through the cloud-native code optimization and transforms legacy Oracle and SQL Server functions to the equivalent AWS service.

Make Amazon Redshift as AWS DMS Target Database

  Amazon Redshift database is a data warehouse solution based in the cloud. With Amazon Database Migration Service, you can migrate data from supported databases keeping Redshift as the target.
